Taiwan Explorer - Part 1: Introducing Formosa

Formosa Island, 120 km off the coast of China is better known as Taiwan. Administered by the Republic of China, it is an odd place politically as well as in many other ways. This new series will offer a bit of a closer look at the place and of course once again piss off a lot of people, but that's O.K. Enjoy!

I found that when many people mention Taiwan history, they usually just mention KMT or ROC part. I think that's due to the sources they got(usually about Taiwan' relationship with China?) It will make a difference if some more are mentioned: 1. TW was first ruled by Dutch. 2. TW was ruled and modernized by Japanese before KMT came. 3. 6 million of Taiwanese lived on the island before KMT came. 4. 98% are categorized as Han Chinese, but many of them are actually mixed with aborigines.

@bctvanw Sure, but if you Google "German History" you will get a mass of results for World War 2 and hardly anything about the 18th century - people care about the most recent or most influential events. The Dutch colonial history in Taiwan has no influence on the 800-1200 missiles pointed at Formosa today.

you really studied your facts. glad to hear that you said taiwan was never ruled by the PRC. research also shows china in her history never ruled taiwan AT ALL!! china has always neglected taiwan and never cared for her. it was the japs who actually helped taiwan to industrialize by investing in the country.
