Yma Sumac was a remarkable Peruvian singer with a five-octave range. She was in several movies, usually as an Inka princess and cut a number of albums.
Unfortunately, her husband/manager(Moisés Vivanco) overdid the PR (or BS) and she wound up mostly as a lounge act in small clubs and never could regain her earlier success.
That is not to say that she and her remarkable voice were totally forgotten. In the film, "The Big Lebowski," this song was part of the soundtrack, and her "Bo Mambo" was used in a Kahlua commercial fairly recently. She has a bit of a cult following on-line.
Yma is still alive, but permanently hospitalized. I understand that she loves to receive cards. I don't know the nature of her illness.
Anyway, the Machu Picchu photography seemed to be a magical backdrop for a very unusual, exotic talent.

Sorry but you are an idiot if you believe the Amy Camus nonsense. That was a tabloid rumour that was disproven decades ago. Yma Sumac has recordings dating back to 1939 before she even left Peru. Also look up the 1942 recordings of miss Sumac in Argentina. Even the Peruvian embassy in Washington DC certified miss Sumacs Peruvian citizenship and place of birth as well as royal lineage. Do research before you post such silly things please.

It was a piece of Paracan tapestry. Paracas was a pre-Incan Peruvian culture (ca. 700 BC).
