Often when we are depressed or anxious, our perception of ourselves becomes distorted. We think the worst of ourselves and others. But realizing we can disregard these negative thoughts is a powerful and liberating thing.

  • This is crazy. I agree with him because I have felt that we do separate ourselves from one and other as if we are different species, although in real life we're all pretty much the same only with different life experiences and personalities. The greatest thing in life is to be able to share you're life with other people.

  • ive been 'pretending" for forever..... ive actually walked in the rain yesterday and at first was so angry that its raining. then i thought i have to get home happy so i put a smile on my face and sang that song "dancing in the rain" came home happy and it was a beautiful night.... i did what he talks about.... and all the anxiety and depression was gone even for that moment..... maybe i should do that for every moment... :)

  • hes so right... after i watched this i looked up.... and saw the sky and sunshine and heard birds

  • Great commonsense approach to therapy. I saw this talk... I understand is now on DVD.

  • I think this definately proves that Mel really can relate to all of us! It's nice to know that feeling sad because of a life event does not mean that I suddenly am depressed and need therapy! I can relate to Mel's positive outlook that can benefit all of us!
