In this video we use Gimp to crop an image initially, removing the white background and then save it in png format.

Then using the saved image we then go to Inkscape where we use the Trace function to turn the raster image into a vector image.

All done using free graphic designing software!

We are using Gimp Vers 2.6.11 and Inkscape Vers .48.2

  • you've made it very easy to understand! does the pic taht you upload into inskape have to to be better than 300 in size in order for it to turned into a vector?

  • @lilpjuarez Hi and thank you for your kind comments. When you say 300, do you mean the size of the image must be more than 300pixels by 300pixels? It does not matter what size the image is, the trace function in Inkscape will work on any size.

If you have a large image I suggest you reduce the size as it would take a long time to trace. Have fun. Caroline and Davina
