Isn't often you see a steam locomotive with ditch lights

614 is a rolling work of art. I hope that she'll be running again someday soon.

@speediracer4 Hancock 3-chime. On these Hoboken - Port Jervis trips, she at one time or another wore a Reading 6-chime, Santa Fe 5-chime, and an N&W Hooter.

@claimless Daylight probably gets out by the Gyralight. The UP engines have either been running long enough to get grandfathered in, or they have gotten some sort of waivers from ditch lights.

@woodalexander But then that wouldn't make sense for SP 4449 (even though it has the moving top light) & UP 844 & 3985 don't have ditch lights at all and normally run 70+ MPH.

What whistle is she wearing in this video? It's definitely not the one she usually has.

@trainmandan05 If it didn't it would have to run at restricted speed as per FRA regs. Just because it's a steam train doesn't mean it can not have required safety gear. Most tourist operations never get above restricted speed over public grade crossings, so they are exempt.

Very cool! but why on earth did they put ditch lights on the locomotive?
