Hiding the Search panel in the menu bar
You can do a search query at any time with the Search bar in the Menu bar. If you do not want to have the Search bar in the Menu bar, or if you would rather bandwidth meters in the Menu bar in place of the Search bar, there's an option in Second Life Release Candidate 1.19.1 (and newer) to remove or swap out the Search bar. Go to Edit menu -- Preferences -- General tab and uncheck the box in front of "Show search panel in overlay bar". The Search bar will be replaced with the old bandwidth meters; left is packet loss and right is active downloads in Kbps/second. (Red packet loss means that your connection is terrible and a lot of data is being lost in transmission. On a reliable connection, you can boost your maximum bandwidth limit in Preferences -- Network tab.) If you prefer, you can see the bandwidth meter in Help menu -- Lag Meter.

  • The option is now located in the Advanced menu (press Ctrl-Alt-D). Go to: Advanced -> UI -> Show search panel in overlay bar.

  • Sadly, this no longer is the case. Not with Second Life 1.23.1 (119104) May 4 2009 17:53:10 (Second Life Release Candidate) anyways. So where do we go now to find out?

  • Can I have both? ^_^

  • why isn't important stuff like this included on the release notes anymore? (or this oen was and I missed it?)

  • Would be great if LL added in a tiny Frames per Second number next to the lag meters there. The expanded lag meter is rather bland and the Control Shift 1 command might be overkill for such info. Oh well, I suppose I can suggest it.

  • Grrrrrrrrrrrreat!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Bothe the keyboard junkies for coding this in, and Torley for pointing this out to us!

This day suddenly got way, way better!

  • Ah lovely to have the meters back in the non-modded official viewer. I didn't realize the new option. Thank you for pointing it out!
