My views on the recent discussion that arose from a video about whether or not you absolutely need a Book of Shadows.

  • Thank you for making this video. For ages I have had a few of the tools I thought that I needed (mainly because my brother stole them but hey) and you have just put my mind at rest thank you. I do have a book of shadows but I don't rite everything down, only the spells and when I ask for dreams and stuff, other then that it's kind of empty.

Thank you! I love my Book of Shadows, I love writing everything down, but that's just me. Everyone is different and to be honest, you don't need anything to be a witch. It depends on the person. Some people don't use BoS's, but that doesn't make them any less. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

  • Good video. I am trying to get tools but for the main part i just use my book of shadows

  • @Singerhorse

    Thank you!

It's good to practice without the tools some of the time, so that you are able to do things when you don't have your tools around, like during travel.

  • Great vid! I love what you said. The only thing is that I think those who do not keep a Book of Shadows are doing a great disservice to themselves. I think they will regret it in the future but that is their business. Also, while I agree we do not need the tools I dont think they should be discarded because under normal circumstances they are a great help. I know you didnt mean that but I think it can confuse some of the newer witches if we dont say it.

  • @Neopagan2007

I agree! I think the BoS and other tools are a great help. The BoS is great for keeping track of a person's spiritual path, and the other tools are great to help with focus, and etc. I think I might make another video this week clarifying that. Thank you for your comment!

  • @AuroraMoonWolf hey i am a Ki user i cant use magic because i don't want to attract demons is there any safe way

  • but yeah, some people are stuck on stereotypes and what all the books they read, say.... and go "ok so to be a witch you have to wear a pentacle, dress in black, chant and be creepy"... Uh no. Every witch is not the same. It's the same with churches and it's the same with pagan practitioners. It's up to the individual. Sheesh lol.

  • of course you don't *need* a BoS, but it just sorta helps as a quick reference of what you do and spells, incantations, etc. a lot... but I agree that to do witchcraft you really don't need tools. Scott Cunningham has Earth Magic, as well as "Earth, Air, Fire, Water: more techniques of natural magic" and in it he explains how much you just don't need tools.. if they help you, fine. but in a pinch, you CAN do without them.

  • [part2] - magic itself (when thought of as a unified 'force') is neither this nor that. like a yin-yang with the two poles circling into one another, each containing the seed of the other, if there is no manipulator, then the energy itself remains in a state of balance - but consciousness acts as a disruptor, so the practitioner actually modifies the system according to their will (the observer affects the observed) which is why we see separation (ie, high and low) when really there isn't any.
