Destruction of Lenin Statue in Cherkassy, Ukraine

On November 28, 2008, Lenin's monument made out of granite was destroyed in Cherkassy, Ukraine. It had been erected in 1969 to mark Lenin's 100th birthday, which was then massively celebrated throughout the USSR. Local communists came to protest the demolition and sing old songs of Party-approved yore...

The plan was to transport Lenin to a less prominent location, but when the crane attempted to lift the statue, it crumbled like an empty cape, following the fate of the country Lenin had created.

You have to know the lyrics of the Lenin song in the soundtrack to fully appreciate the irony.

@UDSS I ment it as implying he would hate the downfall of the ideology he dedicated his life to fighting for. Still there's not a great deal different between both Lenin and his succesor. Both men were modest workaholics, neither being one for the rallies and speeches made under fascist regimes. Both were murderers who wanted to create a phony state religion. Marx may have been a great sociologist and made many great points, but his proposals for a new society were few and far between.

No he would not oppose it. Lenin never wanted huge statues of himself. When Bolshevik leaders sang about Lenin during his 50th birthday, he hated it. Lenin did not liked it when people hailed him as ''great Lenin''. He hated the cult of personality just like Karl Marx. Stalin build on the cult of Lenin to justify the Stalinist dictatorship. No, Lenin would not hate to see that statue fall, it symbolizes a fake Lenin. The Lenin the stalinists showed the world.

Lenin never wanted huge statues of himself. Those Stalinist made Lenin statues should never been put there. The real Lenin was not the Lenin of the propaganda.

He was no saint and no superman. He was a human, a revolutionary leader that never wanted to become the center of a cult of personalty. Joseph Stalin and Grigory Zinoview made the cult of Lenin.

I would remove those statues myself. We must learn from Lenin, not build statues or sing about him in ''revolutionary songs''

However americans today are becomeing lazy and want the goverment to do everything for them. They dont realize that freedom is removed when goverments control your everyday life.
