A feature length documentary about Bill Wilson, the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Bill W. tells the story of William G. Wilson, co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, a man included in TIME Magazine's "100 Persons of the 20th Century." Interviews, recreations, and rare archival material reveal how Bill Wilson, a hopeless drunk near death from his alcoholism, found a way out of his own addiction and then forged a path for countless others to follow. With Bill as its driving force, A.A. grew from a handful of men to a worldwide fellowship of over 2 million men and women -- a success that made him an icon within A.A., but also an alcoholic unable to be a member of the very society he had created. A reluctant hero, Bill Wilson lived a life of sacrifice and service, and left a legacy that continues every day, all around the world.

Bill W. took eight years of full-time work to complete. The filmmakers conducted research in dozens of archives and private collections, and interviewed A.A. members and historians in the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Making a film about the founder of an anonymous society, especially one who died in 1971, presented many obstacles, of course. Very few people who knew Bill W. were still alive at the time this production began. At first, it seemed as if there would be very little visual material available for use in a film. But research and a healthy dose of good fortune allowed the producers to unearth film footage and photographs -- including some that had never been seen before -- and some new material that had not been included in previous written biographies of Bill Wilson. As a result, Bill W. presents a new look at the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Did some research. Bill W was never a stockbroker, he smoked himself to death, and he punched a nurse on his death bed for not bringing him alchohol. Dr. Bob molested his own kids. Franch Buchman was an admitted Nazi and flew to Germany to meet Himmler and also got caught touching young boys. These were the men that created AA.

They're thinking about the non-fiction version of Bill W. In life he was a rotten excuse for a human being who founded a cult, took acid daily and cheated on his wife. The fiction version paints a nicer picture of him being helpful to his fellow man. It's like the episode of the Simpsons with Jebedaya(sp?) Springfield.

In the last days there will be satanic cults like aa. The steppers worship the prophet Bill W. in an invisible way. But they are only giving thier souls to satan and their minds to be master brain washer. GET THE HELL OUT OF AA BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!In the bible it talks about AA and the beast who will rise to rule the world.

It's sad but AA actually runs off more drunks than it helps who continue to drink and drive just like the drunk driver relapse guy who killed my brother.Spiritual not religious?.C'mon people they stand there holding hands doing the ritualistic Christian Lords Prayer and open w/a prayer and it's God this and God that.I was told to "Get God or get drunk." by a guy who ending up drinking and never came back.I hope he is long longer among the living if he is being detrimental to new people.

that is some sick shit and I already knew about smoking himself to death. The punching the nurse thing they told me happened before he "sobered" up (at least the f%*khead got off booze).I thought Buchman was a closeted gay man didn't know he was child molester.I knew Bob was a junkie after he sobered up but incest molester I'm not surprised.None of this shocks me.The pieces of the puzzle fit together.

My sponsor says "they call them suggestions but if you don't wanna drink these are damn well betters" .It would be amusing hearing someone go to an AA group and tell them you worship aliens and that is your higher power.C'mon people get real. When I was new I told first sponsor that I feel like I'm being brainwashed to which he replied "Well if you feel like you are being brainwashed maybe your brain needs washing.".I see them runoff more people than they help a lot by that bullshit.

That freak Bill Wilson wanted to be famous for something (read Bill's story in the "big book" which is actually just the main text) and he got it.He went on to become the most famous anonymous person in the world who couldn't stick to his own ideals, died from his tobacco/nicotine addiction, dropped acid regularly for a supposed "spiritual experience",the list could go on.He did help kickstart a program that helped a lot of people and got some drunks off the streets though. At least some good there

I don't doubt any of that but if a dare attempt to bring any of that stuff up to some hardcore AA people I am told to shut up and to stop being judgemental
