Basically, The Regan/Bush administration helped to cement Saddam's rule in Iraq in hopes of countering Iran, while ignoring the atrocities he committed. In simple terms, they helped put a monster into power, and would later have to shoot him at great cost to everyone.

"There's a difference between giving a speech and bombing a country that posed no immediate threat at the time."

That is not a response to what he/she said - he/she was commenting on Gore's dishonesty in saying one thing at one time and now saying exactly the opposite - he/she was making no such argument in that post.

The fact that " Saddam " was a dangerous sadistic dictator was never disputed by Gore. The approach to this danger is what Gore was speaking to. We all have learned what impulsive and ill advised governmental policies can do. For those of us who have lost loved ones in war, we understand this fact beyond words. Gore and all who respect international law realized that the inspections were working in so far as uncovering WMD in Iraq. The rest is history, it speaks volumes.

Gore's views were very informative and consistent. Can anyone deny how the world has been destabilized by the Bush I and II doctrines? The loss of life we have seen in the region is heart breaking. Thank goodness that these eight years are almost over. Unfortunately, Al Gore isn't one of the choices. It will take all the kings horses and all the king's men to put this poor world back together again.

Yes - saying in one speech that Saddam was a sponsor of terrorism and was amassing WMD and very dangerous and in another saying that it never happened is very consistent (/sarc). Incredible how you can just sit there and say something that is obviously not even close to being true. Have you no shame?

That new Pentagon report vindicates Gore. He was right that Saddam was recruiting, harboring, arming, training and funding thousands of Iraqi and non Iraqi suicide bombers and terrorists.
