SALT LAKE CITY -- The Salt Lake City Police Department's Motorcycle Squad trained on new BMW police motorcycles today at the Utah State Fair Park, 155 N 1000 W., where the Squad has trained for more than 22 years. SLCPD received its first BMW motorcycle in 2009 and now has 14 in-service, as well as 8 Harley-Davidsons. Every motorcycle officer must recertify twice annually to the satisfaction of the training unit by passing an obstacle course, under a time limit, and without hitting cones. Each officer must pass a braking exam and show a proficiency of 90% to pass.
