The only thing atheists have in common is their lack of theism, that is it. Most look at our life to live to the fullest, our world to take care of, and their families to love, their neighbors to help. There is no excuse like an afterlife or "god made me do it" to be an ahole and commit atrocities. I respect spiritual people alot, but theists are just an odd bunch to me, most I've met think of this life as a waste of their time and lacking somehow, which is their insecurity talking.
