@P0RtalMan If you sing over it, you can't hear them at all. Clearly, that is what this was intended for. Anyway, if you can get the lyrics out of this song more efficiently than me, give it a go. I'll upvote the hell out of your video.
This still beats singing over a shitty MIDI rendition of the song with no lyrics. Or a video that says "Karaoke" but is actually the studio version with lyrics superimposed over it.

It really depends on the song. It only works properly if the main vocals are as close to the middle channel as possible, as this trick leaves the far right and left channels while eliminating what is directly in the center.
