@MetroidJunkie2007 I halfway expected the license to also require distribution in the "original package" as they often do. However, I checked the actual DOOM shareware license and all it says is that redistribution is only allowed in compressed form (for whatever reason). I guess we'd have to ask the Doom-for-Web developer himself to know what id actually took offense from. It *does* seem like the same thing other source ports do.
@MetroidJunkie2007 I think they *did* use the demo resources, but still got into trouble. They demo is copyrighted as well, and I'm sure it came with some license that said "only redistribute in its original form", or similar. So even if it was a free demo it might have been technically illegal. Still, it was a cruddy move by id.
id Software gave them trouble. The game's engine may be open-source, but the game itself is not. They should just reupload it with one of the countless free total conversion mods that exist for DOOM, rather than the original game's resources.

@cavegames Isn't he distributing it in its original form? Just... as a source port? That would be like ID going after DS/PSP/etc homebrew efforts.

@kizkoool I think it was because of the WAD file, containing all the images and stuff, which are not public.

I can't believe that Carmack blocked this javascript port of the Doom demo. :(
It's even more stupid considering that the engine is now open-source, and that the game demo resources are free to distribute.

@cavegames Isn't the Doom Demo free to use?
