The degree of extremism to the left or to the right is directly proportional to how overly serious a person takes themselves. The further one's ego goes up, and their sense of personal self-importance, the further to the extreme right or left they go. It's never about making the world better. It's about showing the world how correct THEY are about their views and how wrong everybody else is. "You need to listen to me because I'm so smart and I figured it all out!" Moderates don't do that.

@DanMcCaffrey No offence, but that's a really naive view to take. If moderate meant moderate in politics, then liberal would actually mean liberal, conservative would actually mean conservative, etc.

Moderates can still be extremist lunatics about their views

@Zenkai76 Nope, not playing this left-right garbage. Carlin transcended generic liberal-conservative bullshit.  He criticized EVERYBODY. He hated what our government has become, he mocked this country for what it turned into, and he didn't give a shit if the cat in the White House had an R or a D after his name. He knows Americans don't have rights, we have privileges that can be taken away. He considered voting an act of masturbation. That left-right crap just does not apply to Carlin.
