Fooling around with a freon-can and a dell latitude D510.

Unfortunately, the D510's temp sensor only goes down to 25 degrees celcius, so when the temp got lower, it suddenly showed 85 degrees celcius.

The freon actually made a significant layer of ice on the cooling ribbon. So much that we could make a tiny snowball out of it! :)

The temp sensor got permanently damaged after the cooling-stunt, so don't try this at home! :)

  • I have this laptop... is it easy to replace the HDD? and is it easy to get inside?

    cheers

  • Yes. It's VERY easy do replace the HDD on D510. It's just one or two screws underneath, and the HDD tray slides rigth out if I remember correctly.

It's also easy to get to the mainboard. Just flip up the plastic cover around the power button, unscrew 3 screws for the keyboard and you are there.

If you want to pick out the mainboard it's a bit more fiddling, but google Dell D510 servicemanual and I guarantee you'll find one.

  • huh now you should go and buy 100 cans of freon gas and overclock your laptop to the exetrem :D

imagine what would happen if you have finnaly reached the highest stable clock then you run out of freon gas and then laptop breaks LOL

  • Heheh! That's a good idea :)

Anyway... we broke the temp sensor :/

  • thats a good way to mess up a laptop dumdass

  • eeeh... dumbass? It's done with PURPOSE. We knew what we where doing and had a spare mainboard laying around if if went wrong. So PLEASE SHUT UP with such stupid comments.
