Subaru of New England "Ooh, Ooh, It's Love" Contest Winners - Jacob Silver & Ashly LaRosa

Ashley LaRosa talks about her love of music, and how she got involved in the Subaru of New England talent contest for the "Ooh, Ooh It's Love" song:

I am Ashly LaRosa and I'm an English Major in my junior year at the University of Hartford. My mom bought me my first guitar Christmas of 2006 but I didn't really give it much of a shot until 2008 when I unexpectedly became inspired. From then, I wrote song after song and since, I've produced three low-fi home recorded albums that are free on the internet. Other instruments include a thrift store glockenspiel, a ukulele, the melodica, a harmonica that I can't play very well and a keyboard that I dabble with.

Freshman year of college, I was taking a Calculus class. I met Jacob who had long curly Rapunzel-like hair at the time and asked him to help me with my homework. I later found that he had a ukulele and a knack for harmonies. It was music at first sound. Our hometowns (Torrington, where I live and Thomaston, where he lives) are very close and so we decided to get together and jam over the summer. We played in the grass at a park and a few last-minute-on-a-whim gigs at a smoothie shop. Wherever we are, we're singing. After being asked repeatedly why we don't collaborate more often, we decided to cover Sugar Ray's "Every Morning" which was a big hit with all of our friends. Jacob was going to enter the Subaru contest alone, but then suggested that I accompany him in the contest. I agreed, thinking it was a longshot-I had no idea we'd win. I thought it'd be cool to do a video too since we both have YouTube accounts and that's how we promote ourselves and our covers.

Since our Subaru experience, all of our friends and family act like we're celebrities. It's unreal. It really was an incredible experience and I'm glad Jacob asked me to enter with him! SO much feedback! People call me everyday to tell me they saw it! It's seriously crazy. And so awesome. Can't thank you enough for the opportunity!
