A very timely song that is without time, written and recorded by a great American. This has been a favorite of mine now for at least two decades. Arlo once mailed me a photo copy of this one in his own handwriting. I still have it. I gladly would have paid for it, but I think he was just glad to have someone like the song. to HalfBornUnicorn...He wasn't predicting Afghanistan, he was writing about the war the Russians had there with the Taliban, you know, the one where we made Osama bin Ladin a hero. And when he says, "Before the war in Iraq was even geting thought about", (or something like that), he is refering to what I call, BWI (Bush War One, he one where Papa Bush took on Iraq over the Kuwait Occupation.. This was wow Little George was still coking it up in the oil fields I guess.
