Oh, pleeeease! The Savile Row tradition will never die. No matter how many A&F store they open or don't open. Quit crying and continue carry on sewing.
-
so pleased this is on youtube, really love good clothes & tayloring, along with all that savile row represents. i dont agree with A&F or Evisu being on the row, although i have frequented both stores, it should be kept exclusive for tailors

Out of all the places in the world and in London, jeans and t-shirts retailers had to go to Savile Row...that's evil and very immature !

Or more succinctly: they want capitalism, but not if it puts them out of business. The upside-down logic of the business community is baffling.
The Row is great, but the great tradition they preserve is sometimes being defended by fakery and elitism - they 'define' a bespoke suit as one originating only within the streets around the Row, they have no business excluding places like Mount St. were Hayward's still trades. But it excludes all the people who trained on the row but trade elsewhere.
-
if they do move, the suits should be cheaper b/c less rent????
-
Let me get this straight: a group of businesses that is objectively one that is decreasing in both societal popularity AND market demand is complaining that a business with increased popularity and market demand is coming in? While I respect high-end class and the like, this clip tells the story: just because a location is iconic for something, doesn't mean that ironicness (is that even a word?) can stop sheer change in society.
-
Yeah, the tailors should move and make way for the new wave. A&F Flagship store, an S Club Juniors-themed museum, an HMV, a Brittany Spears rollercoaster, and finally a Top Shop location which actually has its OWN child sweat shop that you can view behind glass as they make your garments. Sorted.
-
The tailors should MOVE! If the street is going down the pan, they should take their class and distinction somewhere else. Find another street. Preferably one with small shops which would be of no use to these bloody dreadful large retailers who are ruining everything that has some class.
A&F v. Savile Row tailors = douche v. sophistication
