  • This is a wonderful interpretation. He is not overly sentimental and schmaltzy. Just listen to the music within the tempo parameters he chose: just as much feeling as a ten-minute version! Incredible dynamics, rhythmic accuracy and voicing.

Traditionally, adagio has about 66-76 bpm.

Gould is playing at around 70 bpm.

It's faster than most people play it (perhaps that's why you don't like it, because it sounds different than what you're used to?), but it's not "too fast".

  • As an avid Gould fan I must admit I do not find this interpretation to be particularly stunning. Regardless of whether the tempo is played adagio or not there is a lack of romanticism in this interpretation that I feel takes away from the beauty of Beethoven. To each their own..

  • @Malerghaba Thnk u but we don't have a piano, only a 33 key keyboard. I learn parts all the time on guitar that are interpretations of Chopin and so on. You are right that it can b learned if u keep trying it and want to play it close to the way it is played.

  • @cameltooth1 Well.. I thought exactly like you..but I thought I'd give it a shot. The Moonlight Sonata took about 1-2 months to learn from zero experience, surprisingly easy even for me with no experience. Don't give up

  • It really has an urgency which affectedly sentimental interpretations lack. I dig that.

  • tää on ihana mun sisko ottaa tän sen esitelmäänsä jonka aihe on Beethoven

  • I like the tempo. It is different and i am able to follow the progression and structure better. I could probably learn it on guitar or piano from hearing the clarity of it here. It would take the rest of my life to learn this or any classical because i have never had any music teacher.

  • i think what i just heard was perfect and beautiful

  • @azndude108 No he didn't.

  • jesus glenn.... you will be missed as long as I am around you beautiful beautiful man.

  • @al1936ful I concur, and I suspect this interpretation is defended solely out of a chauvinistic devotion to Glenn Gould.
