Highlights of the 2009 Philip Lawrence Awards Ceremony, which took place on 8 December at BAFTA in London.
The awards were hosted by Sir Trevor McDonald, who was joined by Frances Lawrence, Ed Balls MP and Alan Johnson MP to present the awards to the ten inspiring groups of young people. Entertainment was from Flava Crew and the amazing Hackney African Drummers Group, supported by Future Talent.
The Philip Lawrence Awards commemorate head teacher Philip Lawrence, who was stabbed outside his school in 1995 when going to the aid of a pupil. He believed that every child is capable of greatness, and year after year the award winners demonstrate just what great things young people all over the UK are doing.
The awards are joint funded by the Home Office and DCSF and managed by youth charity Catch22.
