  • who knows where to find pat's chords on this?

  • ...clasico....

  • @krzynka1 Hmm... not quite - if you follow the chronology of the comments you'll see how flamenco came up.

  • @zthetha I don't know why would you even compare Pat to flamenco players. His style is completely different, his technique too, and here he uses the strumming in a totally defferent context. It's like comparing rock with classical music or samba with hip hop.

  • @guitarrahombre Yeah - Paco's a fabulous guitarist. The best flamenco I ever heard was on an old mono LP which is in store now - can't recall the names of the guys on it off hand but I like Sabicas, Salazar, Tomatito and especially Manitas de Plata who Picasso said was a greater genius than himself.

  • @zthetha i've heard metheny say that he greatly admired jim's sense of timing. but yeah of course metheny's strumming is going to sound shitty if you're comparing it to the flamenco techniques, the guy uses a pick! by the way which flamenco guy's do you like? i'm into paco de lucia

  • @guitarrahombre Wasn't Metheney a pupil of Hall's at one time? He is doubtless a good musician but after a second listen from 2.50 onward I'm afraid I am still of my original opinion. I studied flamenco which, like the blues, is easy to play badly but hard to play well. In both cases it is not simply a question of bashing out a monotonous rhythm - music has to breathe - something Hall is acutely aware of in every note he plays.

  • @zthetha man without those open chords the song would be completely different. check out at parts like 2:50 onward were metheny does his chord solo mixing the melody of the song into his rhythm it's awesome. he's also playing in good time.

  • @zthetha ..yeahh ..for the untrained and judgemental ear ... for musiclovers this is butter

  • Hall sounds great here but Metheney's endless pseudo flamenco strumming sounds like a beginner struggling with lesson one of his 'teach yourself how to...'
