Boulder County Parks and Open Space has adopted a biomass energy system to heat the Parks and Open Space and Transportation complex in Longmont. The biomass energy system uses wood byproducts, or wood chips, from our natural resource management activities on Open Space properties.

This video demonstrates how waste wood from forest thinning operations can be used to generate power. This technology is not complex and many other municipalities, school districts and counties are also interested in using this technology, which can be used to heat a wide variety of buildings.

This video was produced by the Colorado Governors Office of Energy Management and Conservation.
