@sgm2005fu Excellent question. What I mean is irregardless of what part of the face the punches land it is the way they are thrown and the reaction they cause. Tyson had short arms for his height; he threw punches in a short, tight arc. Louis and Shavers as well. Holmes said Tyson hit him hard but Shavers' punch had a snap to it that hurt him more than anyone. Tyson, Louis and Shavers' opponents fell in sections--these three rarely scored flash knockdowns. Hope that helps with your question!

@hmsheppard Hi. I'm curious about you describing Tyson's punches as having "snap."
I always saw Tyson landing his punches on the other side of the other guy's face.
Could you elaborate?

@29ungido I quickly agree that Tyson must be placed on the most dangerous heavyweight puncher list. Yet, many of them possessed certain qualities in their lick. Shavers had electricity in his hands. Liston and Foreman were heavy handed, hurting you wherever they landed. Marciano's punch was the same. Tyson's compact punches had snap, as did Joe Louis's. 1950s heavyweight Bob Satterfield had murder in his punches as well.

@29ungido Great points! Frazier got tagged frequently throughout his career, but in the end he would come on in the end. Surely, if Tyson had connected to Frazier he would have been out. And yes, Tyson's rapid weaving and bobbing style, like Roberto Duran, made him hard to hit during his prime.

@hmsheppard mmmm I dont know or understand how does anyone compare great puncher alike with tyson. yes liston, shavers, holmes, and tyson all had great punching power. I am not going to say that tyson's was greater all i can say is that tyson was among them. However there's no comparison in styles, they ally beat those guys like liston and foreman. guess what tyson was not liston or foreman, those guys were great boxers, but way too rough tyson's boxing was an art very define and powerful

@hmsheppard I'm trying to be as objective as possible, but honestly is impossible to objectize a fight and skills. However as far as toughness frazier had tyson beat, Frazier was too tough; as far as skills, punching power, technique, and hand speed Tyson had frazier beat. Frazier was like a steam machine that just went forward and forward lots a lots of courage, nice left hook, great boxer but got hit way too much. Tyson always went forward great hand speed, destrying power, nd wouldnt get hit

@29ungido Another interesting point. I think a Tyson-Frazier match would have boiled down to who had the most guts. Frazier's style wasn't mysterious at all, and, like Marciano and Tyson, had no pretense to what he was about in the ring. I know Frazier was a typically rough Philly fighter who had no quit in him. He proved that over and over. I really can't say if Tyson had that same mental toughness. But! As you said, these are match-ups only in our dreams! Good comment!

@hmsheppard I guess dream match ups among the greats is every boxing fan's dream. I dont wanna bring down frazier 'cause i respect his skill and to me he was great, but i dont think he would have done too well with tyson, ther styles were to similar, but tysons had him beat in spped and strength well a prime tyson. tyson's boxing was artful beatiful to watch. frazier was fascinating too but ui dont think he'd have done too well against him. ally maybe would had have a better chance

@29ungido I see your point and it is a good one. I agree that a prime Tyson would have given a prime Ali a handful. Yet, I still think with Ali's reach advantage (80" to 71"), his boxing ability, his foot/hand speed and Jack Johnson ability to tie an opponent up, Tyson wouldn't have been able to cope with it. But, as you said, it would have been a terrific fight nonetheless. We'll never know! Between you and I, I've always wanted to see what a Tyson-Joe Frazier match would have looked like.
people think Ali is not the greatest but boxers from all stlye of fight cannot match his speed, jabs, fastness and endurances as well as intelligence of this black superman. He would be all times rated for the greatest.

Youre crazy. Ali beat two guys Tyson could have easily lost to and were considered the "Tysons" of their day; Sonny Liston and George Foreman. Both men were known to be some of the biggest hitters the game has ever seen and Ali stood up to both of them and took their best shots. Ali would outsmart and outbox Tyson the way he did Liston and Foreman
