So.. my fan was making some odd noises, like it was trying to start, but something was in the way, so I googled for it and came across this video. A friend of mine was in the other room smoking, and when he came back I told him "Check this out, some idiot says that I should knock like this" and I actually knocked... and the fan start running as intended. DOH!!!!
Never underestimate the power of stupidity!

Something's blocking the fan... go inside it, clean out any debris, see if that fixes it.
