  • there is no such thing as "tai chi shuai jiao". it might be "shuai", but Shuai Jiao is its own art form

  • Shuai Jiao is its own style of martial art, correct. However, most authentic Chinese martial arts include, punching, kicking, chin na, and shuai. There is such a thing as Taiji Shuai Jiao. You're looking at it.

  • So if i wanted to learn short punches would it be Taiji Wing Chin and to learn joint locking would it be Taiji Eagle claw

  • That wouldn't be necessary, since taiji does already include punching and chin na. The point of this program is to educate the mainstream that taijiquan is a complete system with shuai intact. It is not commonly taught, so this is not a commonly-known fact. We do so in order to preserve taijiquan as completely as possible for the sake of the art, and to help as many people as possible to enjoy the full depth of taijiquan. Im not sure how your commentary is helping anyone.

  • OMG. Where's the mat!

  • lol theyre doing ukemi

  • @Dvivid The problem goes I think that many think that Tai Chi is just a slow, gentle art for exercising only. They don't realize that slow, gentle training is what can give you a lot power and understand the moves if you really want to and see that it is actually Tai Chi Chuan. Tai Chi Chuan is a "two move" art and very powerful. True, it has everything in there and I am not sure about the Yang Style but the Chen Style, the kicks are very clear too. Tai Chi Chuan is a very good art!

  • @QianHanXiongShou Don't you mean International Treasure? ; )

  • @sirbobulous i remember reading somewhere that a monk from shaolin traveled to japan during the 15/1600s. i think his name was something like chin genshin or w/e. anyway, he taught chinese grappling techniques to some of japan's grappling pioneers who later went on to make judo or jiu jitsu. thats if i remember right but ye, i did read somethin like this somewhere, and it was a book about samurai, not shaolin or chinese at all lol. id have to get my hands back on the book to confirm.

  • Fundamentally these are similar to some Judo/JiuJitsu/Wrestling throws and sweeps. Ko Soto Gari, O Soto Gari being the main two I see. So yeah, these techniques work in my own experience, which includes full contact MMA. I think they'd need to be drilled in a more 'live combat' situation than the artistic forms you usually see, but if someone was willing to train them in that manner they'd work.

  • @griqs Yeah. Taijiquan and baguazhang have many similarities. I practice both!

  • lol it seems like bagua

  • This is a great DVD, now I'm really excited about the seminar that Dr Yang is giving on this in February. Check out the YMAA website for details.

  • For all Shuai Jiao-holics:

Make sure you check out the Shuai Jiao tutorials posted on our channel.
