umm.. if your windows deactivates itself because of hardware changes - call the toll free hotline to activate again. That's what it's there for.. :)
In the US Microsoft allows exchange of all components but the mainboard by the EULA as far I remember..

A 3gbps sata drive will have jumpers on it to make it 1.5gbps
