Good job. I was skeptical because, as you say, it has been recorded by so many great artists. You do the song justice... more sincerity than some of the big name artists. Thanks for caring and for sharing. And for inspiring young folks.

xentric2000...
This song was written in 1950 by Ed McCurdy and has been recorded by many artists over the years including The Weavers, John Denver, Simon and Garfunkel, Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Johnny Cash and Garth Brooks. I guess we can add Cornelius Vreeswijk to the list. Peace....

I'm sure it's originally an Almanac Singers song, before 1950 too, I can't know for sure though, my favourite version is Joan Baez's live cover, from her live album Very Early Joan, beautiful

Ed McCurdy (January 11, 1919 - March 23, 2000) was a folk singer, songwriter, and television actor. He is known for his widely-covered anti-war classic, "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream," which has been recorded in seventy-six languages; as well as a collection of risqué Elizabethan folk songs in a three-part series of albums titled When Dalliance was in Flower (and Maidens Lost Their Heads), which became a favorite record series of Prince Phillip of England.
