First of all great video Matt, Thanks for sharing it, I really enjoy the tones and melodic interplay of those drums.
However, the comments about Mike Portnoy crack me up. What relevance does he have to this? And furthermore get a wider influence on music than DT, there are many drummers far more creative and innovative than MP on a set ( which obviously this isn't even a drum set piece). Ever heard of Billy Cobham or Manu Katche?

Based on his beautiful set-up and performance, I'm sure he's more than just thought about mallet choice...

Matt Coleman, THE Matt Coleman! Congrats on the DMA. Hope you're well. Nice playing and sweet rack. :)

I've been listening to a lot of drumming videos lately and noticed that gradual volume increase makes me perceive an increase in pitch as well. Is this due to the head being stretched more by the hits, or is it another effect? Any info?

I think you're right. Perhaps more with drums that have thicker heads. These drums have quite thick pig skin. I think typically when you play thinner headed drums too loud they just get really distorted.

The Percussive Notes article on this piece was very interesting, the author provided three different set ups, none of which particularly resembling this one. That's part of the nature of the piece however, the individualized set up varying from performer to performer. I'm going to be starting to prepare this piece for a recital I have about a year from now, and I'm looking forward to figuring out what works best for me. Very nice performance of a great piece.

Nice job! In what order from high to low did you set up the drums?
Keep up the good work!

Thanks. From top left to right, it's in ascending order except the 5 and 6 drums and the 9 and 10 drums are swapped. I wanted 5 and 9 to be a little more centered. If I were to redo it I would probably rearranged the drums even more ergonomically.
