  • "Capitalism has proved to be a touch quixotic, not to say mean, brutish and ugly... And there's not the slightest sign that either the United States or Europe is prepared to relinquish agricultural subsidies in order to give African agriculture a chance to export."

Subsidies are not a part of Capitalism.

  • He is making fun of Dambisa when admitting being a socialist.

  • Stephen Lewis is not even an academic to be talking about aid. Shut up Lewis!

  • so what I get from this video is "Africans should quit trying to change and better Africa's situation, we Americans(and Canadians) will keep giving you aid and it doesn't matter how ineffective it has proved to be.

  • @StephenHP62 The is no real world capitalism. The countries in the world are social-democracies. He is talking about the problems and unfairness of social-democracy (both left wing and right wing versions) and calling it capitalism. Its dishonest.

  • @StephenHP62 It's the "imaginary version" we're fighting for. If this guy is going to talk about existing systems he should use the correct terminology rather than tarnishing the image of the system he doesn't understand because he doesn't know economics.

  • @Craigvadams Can you provide a cogent reply to Lewis's arguments?

  • @hugolp Not much of a rebuttal, if you'll pardon the pun.

  • @RickW05 If that's true, there isn't a single capitalist state in the world. Lewis is talking about the real world of capitalism, not the imaginary version beloved by right-wing ideologues.

  • @hugolp Thank you! Fuck, what crass about leftists is that they are no different than the right. A person like Stephen Lewis would argue against racism and yet a white man, is telling an African woman how she should be thinking about her culture and pretends expertise. How is this different from the very thing that Edward Said who white leftists tend to cream themselves over criticized?

  • what a frieking idiot, she says humanitarian aid is not the target of her book!!! fuckk!!!!!
