  • ammm so what's the point of it?

  • @pentium3000 - As I said before, Flashing leds is just a demonstration to show that the router can control an external I2C device. This could have just as easily run motors, measure temperature, activate servos, control your home or any thing else you want.

These are not things a router normally could do.

  • you could use the GPIO's to do it

  • The GPIOs are used to run the I2C protocol.

This enables the use of any I2C device including IO expansion.

The point of the project was not to flash leds. It's just an example of a port expander based on I2C.

  • This is so cool. How did you do it exactly? Any schematic/details instructions? And how about the software part? I absolutely love that!

  • See the OpenWRT wiki in the hardware section for all the details.

  • @NekMech ahh thats what i want to do!! hahaahah

  • I love the wrt54 GL (which I have) I'll probably do a fan mod and overclock the beast, and I want to try to put linux somehow, I already have dd-wrt which is a lot better than the original pos os that came on it when I bought it.

  • Not sure what you mean, but the point was to show that the router can control external elements using I2C.

Flashing some leds was just an example.

  • cool!

But what exactly does this thing?
