This is how I fixed the low oil pressure on a Ford 302 in a 4x4 pickup. It is one of those situations where the motor is old and tired but still has quite a bit of life left before she gives out. It can be done with a minimum of tools and without removing the motor from the truck however it will be difficult and time consuming.

Understand you undertake all motor work at your own risk.

  • with what and where on the engine did you jack it up???

  • @greesemonkey117 Floor jack, wooden block pushing up on the crank pulley right near the block. Yea I know insert 'I had a buddy who wrecked his engine doing that' story here Worked fine, lifted from there 3 separate times, no damage.

  • It was the standard oil pump. Starting with bad bearings I think you are best to go grab a used motor. If you decide to try it take care with the pan gasket or best, replace it. I damaged the pan gasket and have not managed to get the leak stopped. Looks like I will have to get back in there and replace it. That is just what I wanted to do...

  • I got easy 20 psi of oil pressure but the motor is fine no lifter problems and 184k miles. Im just going to sell it sooner or later

  • Was this a Melling standard type pump or the High Volume? I bought a Melling HV pump, but never installed it. After pulling my 302 from a Bronco, and looking at the crank, it was really wiped out. Probably would not have helped that situation. The engine was making alot of lifter noise after about 20 minutes of driving. At that point, a junkyard engine was cheaper and easier than a bottom-end rebuild.
