Using EFILive to flash a tune to my 2003 Duramax Diesel (LB7)

This was a calibration-only flash, which is quicker than a full flash. A full flash updates the operating system as well as the calibration data. A calibration flash takes less than 2 minutes, while a full flash takes just under 10 minutes.

The reason the dash resets and says "UNKNOWN DRIVER" is because EFILive shuts down all modules in the truck to prevent them from interfering with the flash. The "SERVICE 4WD" message, ABS light, etc, are all because the respective control modules are shut down. They all reboot at the end of the flash (when the radio appears to turn itself on--it's rebooting at the request of EFILive). The ignition has to be left off for 15 seconds after the flash to return the ECU to a known state, then you are done!

For more information on EFILive, google them! They make a great product.

  • what did your head unit come out of? i got one out of a 2003 denali, will that work?

  • @5804488 Mine came out of a 2005 Cadillac. The trick is getting one with the same amplifier ("LUX" or non-"LUX" -- both are Bose systems). If you don't, you have to reflash the head unit. So without knowing what amplifier you have, and what amplifier the denali has, I can't say if it will work. You can find a lot of good info on forums like The Diesel Place. I don't know enough about the different options to say for sure what will and won't work. But it is totally worth it! Good luck!

  • i see you have a navigation installed was that a hard process to do?

  • @5804488 It wasn't too bad. The hardest part was pulling the dash off to install the GPS antenna. The rest was literally plug and play. I did add the speed wire from the dash to the radio, but many vehicles have this wire from the factory. With no experience, it could probably be done in an evening.

  • with efi live tune does ur name stay in the little digital message board?

  • @TheBassmaster96 No, it only shows up during the flashing process.

  • i have a question about trying to reset/flash my ECU to stock! message me please thanks

  • @sagius Yeah, screw that guy, no one likes that "unknown driver" anyway! :P

  • @DAVe3283Martin UNKNOWN DRIVER GETS NO DIESEL

  • @sagius It had a full tank. You can see at the start of the video how the gauge is on full. Once EFILive connects to the truck, it turns off all the computers so it can program faster, which causes the dash to read zeros for everything. You can even see when the fuel gauge jumps down to 0 in the video at 0:32
