I thought Kip was going to fit the LED alarm clock with an IR decoder (available at Radio Shack).

These inexpensive devices decode the frequencies of most IR LED remote controls, filtering out the 38KHz pulses into simple high/low output.

Hook that up to the "snooze" button (with a simple microcontroller or even low-current relay) and you use any button on any common TV remote to shut off the alarm.

Seems way better than destroying a Sega peripheral...
