@konsonans Exaclty! The greatest clarinetist? Probably. As a musician? Not so much.
It all comes down to "expression through sound", not just sound. If I wanted evenness of sound I would rather listen to the piano.

There is a lot of variety within that sound.
Leister is an artist who made a choice to make that instrument sound as even as possible, which is a great achievement.
The trade-off is: that idea, as beautiful a sound as Leister reached, denies the variation of sound quality, which can be seen as a serious artistic limitation if you consider the exceptional versatility of a clarinet.
Most artists before and after him, even only in the classical field, tried and try to explore a bigger range.

I agree and according to me, Leister had make a choise for a sound that is the most naturally clarinet sound we can obtain; I think clarinetists should listen to him to understand HOW play.. than everyone chooses his way to put out him-self
