Overview

Located at Fifth Avenue and E 64th Street, the Central Park Zoo comprises five acres of exotic animal life, divided among three main habitats: polar circle, tropic zone and temperate territory. There is also the Tisch Children's Zoo that is a big hit with the little ones. Don't forget your camera!
The Central Park Zoo is open 365 days a year,
from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. between April 2 and November 6, and from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. between November 7 and April 1. Admission is $12 for adults, $7 for children 3-12 and $9 for seniors 65 and older. For a total experience ticket for the park and the 4-D theatre, it is $18 for adults, $13 for children and $15 for seniors. Central Garden & Sea Lion Pool

Come see the sea lions get fed during their daily feedings at 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. You can watch the sea lions swim underwater through the pool's glass walls. Polar Circle

Watch the gentoo, chinstrap and king penguins get fed at 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m., or come see the graphics and videos of this enhanced exhibit. The polar bears are sure to entertain with their giant balls and tubes, and you can watch them underwater, at rock-level or from above. Snow Leopard Exhibit

The zoo's newest exhibit, check out the snow leopards in their evergreen habitat and rocky waterfall environment. You can view these big cats through glass and a mesh panel. Temperate Territory

Don't miss the red pandas and baboons of the temperate region. Watch a troop of snow monkeys roam their rocky island and bathe in the hot springs of their habitat. Tisch Children's Zoo

Kids enjoy playing in giant bird effuse, spiderwebs and turtleshells in this hands-on section of the zoo. Tropic Zone: The Rainforest

View the rainforest on platforms on all levels of this rich habitat. This is where you will find lemurs from Madagascar, poison dart frogs with toxic skin and the tamandua, or Brazilian anteater. A variety of birds like the golden weaver and the Victoria crown pigeon can be seen building nests and warbling songs. Brief History
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The first official zoo in New York and the second publicly owned in the nation, the Central Park Zoo opened in the 1860s as a menagerie with a bear and some swans. It was reconstructed in 1934, adding new buildings around the sea lion pool. Closed and renovated again in 1983, it reopened on August 8, 1988 with natural environments for its animals instead of the old-fashioned cages it had used before.http://www.cpzbook.com
