Something like that. He has become a vampire of sorts after his encounter with Soul Edge in Soul Calibur II. The wounds he was giving by Soul Edge Infected him.

The whole vampire thing wouldn't have bothered me so much, it's just that he's being stuffed with every vampire reference imaginable to the point where he comes off as a charicature to anyone new to the game.
I do love Raphael, and nothing will change that. I just hate what Namco is doing to him.
Oh, and thanks for correcting me on Monte Cristo. It's been a while since I've read the book, so I'm ashamed about forgetting that little detail.
