do clapton fans just ignore the whole decade of the 80's? man he did some horrid stuff. clapton- he didnt even record the best guitar parts in his best guitar song

Art is about what you have to say with your instrument, not how many notes you hit. Clapton has become something like an orchestral performer, brilliantly rendering the works of his artistic betters, flawed men who had more in common with Garcia than Clapton.

@debenito: Yeah, "Sow in Heaven". One of Clapton's all time greats. I'm not sure what you mean by feeling sorry for me. I acknowledged in my post that Clapton is a great guitar player. I just think that he is not terribly original, especially when compared to Garcia, who spent his entire career on musical ground that most bands don't even know exists. Garcia himself once said that the one thing he'd like to do before dying is "learn how to actually play the guitar". That being said, art

Clapton's kind of insincere. Brilliant technician, but about as charismatic and engaging as a slammed door. Garcia wore his heart on his sleeve, that's why people loved him. Does anyone have audio of their one live appearance together? Some sort of African aid concert in the UK.

Comparing Jerry and Clapton is a little tough. Jerry is essentially a bluegrass player and Clapton is a blues artist. I think Clapton could have outshone Jerry while flat picking but Jerry was far better at finger picking. It's two completely different styles of play so very tough to directly compare. Either way both men changed music for the better around the world.

@klaatu2008 people go to hell who talk about Jerry that way... Maybe he should do a couple lines of blow to get pumped like your boy clapton. I love E.C. but where he took from his elders music, jerry created his own. the enire band was competely revolutary and jerry is the reason. he just loves picking on songs he enjoys. RESPECT, and btw listen to the crowd who listened to the real version...you can tell how much it was loved.
