THATS WHAT SIDE CHARACTERS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PEOPLE ON THE SIDE!
And the only robin that sucks is Jason Todd

I think the captions were there, repeated continuously, to reiterate the mundanity and subsequent study Batman had to do over these characters; the annoyance of reading them over and over and over again just reinforces the level of understading and acquaintance over the characters. It may seem annoying, but I found it pretty useful as I kept forgetting the Falcone's family tiers and others- so many Italian names, lol. The captions were also good because they actually foreshadowed some narrative.

@narutofan9tf I agree that it is very hard to remember all of the side Falcone family members names and titles. But I think that you can reiterate who someone is over and over again with flashbacks and be more involving than using captions over and over again. The sequel to this book The Haunted Knight doesn't have the reused captions problem that this and the original stories have and to me it is the funnest story delivery because it feels a lot more fluid.

is this a robin origin

@dutyfan11, It's a nice retelling of Robin's origin with quite the darker representation of his past.

oh, yeah... Sale draws Mad Hatter & Penguin like midgets. Not sure why. Besides that, his art for Batman is awesome. His art really makes up for Loeb's annoying dialogue.

@HolySasquatchTurd Yeah, tell me about, the Mad Hatter and Penguin aren't exactly written as significant characters either, it's like Sale drew the Penguin and Mad Hatter like they were written or underwritten if you will. We get some pages of them running and then we get Batman towering over them as a walking muscle. It's too much, I know they are supposed to be a little bit shorter than average, not midgets though. I would have liked to seen more depth in them as well, they're good characters.
