Jon: My name is Jon Foreman, I play in a band called Switchfoot, and this is Oh! Gravity.
*Oh! Gravity. plays*
Jon: When we first started writing and recording Oh! Gravity, we were not even thinking about a project.
That attitude kind of carried through the whole project. It was just kind of a natural thing where we didn't really set out to achieve anything, we were just kind of making music for ourselves.
Gravity is the physical attraction between two bodies and it's basically asking the laws of physics why we, on a social and political plane, can't really keep it together.
If you look at the headlines everyday, you see things falling apart.
Basically disobeying the laws of physics.
I feel like for me, this is kind of a collection of the last three years. You know and I feel like as a band we've kind of got our, our thing that we do really well as a five of us. We know where we're going, we know where we're headed.
I think the theme for this record could be summed up with not so much why do bad things happen to good people, but why do good things happen to bad people?

Clearly in the first part of the interview, Jon Foreman defines music as a device for getting viewpoints across barriers (such as religious ones). And lo and behold, Christian ideas can be found laced into the lyrics of Switchfoot songs.
Jon also talks about music waking people up, and by that, he means to wake them up to the truth of God. Being put in the genre of "Christian music" would alienate them from the people they are trying to reach

you are right, they are not a christian band. Jon told that like a hundred of times, but their faith (not in a religious point of view) is the christian.
