  • great job! how do you make the sort of vibrating sound on the flute? i don't really know how to describe it, but i'd really like to learn!

  • That is a technique called flutter-tonguing. You put the tip of your tongue against the upper inside ridge of your gumline just behind your teeth, and when you push breath through your mouth and into the flute, it makes that sound. It's pretty easy to learn and fun to do. Good luck!

  • @raydenthetullgod Awesome walk-through! As a musician (with six instruments under my belt), I finally journeyed to the flute. First thing I tried? Flutter-tonguing! Like a fucking relfex, the moment I locked-in that sound, my left leg rose up from the ground in sympathetic tribute to our rock-flute lord, Ian Anderson! Your contribution to my continued rocking is much appreciated :)

  • @Myklanjlo I noticed the same thing when I started playing! That leg just has a mind of its own. I like the phrase "rock-flute lord." I called him the god of music once after a show in Nebraska...I could see him mentally rolling his eyes, lol.

  • you are martin Barre !! and Ian Anderson !!!

  • Hey that was great!! I appreciate the fact that you keep in mind the singing style of Ian Anderson. :D Check out my cover of the flute solo!

  • lol it loks like ur playing at work

  • ooh that's so much. you're playing's awesome.

  • EXCELLENT flutist!

  • Keep it comi'n man; i'm ever inspired by all the inflow (can barely keep up with all the insiration but it keeps me puffin' and learn'n.

I should maybe one day try a Tull vaocal vid; I earned my bread and butter at it long before I ever attempted Tull on flute. But I'm shy at singing, beleiving the band (and me on drums--humbly) brought it across more than my vocals ever did. I don't have any Tull backing tracks without vocals but I find some I might just try.
