Customer stated a noise coming from the timing area of the engine, as you can see the cover is removed. Inspecting all of the components, the balance shaft belt has gone completely bare, all of the teeth from the belt are gone. balance shaft still spins by hand. but after replacing belt heard bearing noise from rear balance shaft. Ordering replacement ams block. look forward to next video

  • yes the comment helps, thanks! each cylinder has to be on TDC compression stroke to do the leak down test? correct?

    do you have a video on, installing the timing belt only? for the Mitsubishi 2.4 16 valve SOHC

    yes leak down is performed on tdc. leave other cylinder spark plugs in to aid in keeping motor from spinning off tdc of test cylinder.

    Sorry we do not have a video up of mitsubishi 2.4 timing belt install.

  • @Projectimportcom when you replaced this balance shaft belt were there any cog alignments neccisary got an evo6 with i think the same problem motor is in a ce lancer 2 door

    rear balance shaft belt has and alignment mark for replacement just like a main timing belt.

    crank on tdc. rear balance shaft pulley should have alignment mark and one on oil pump housing.

I'm trying to work on my daughters 2003 eclipse 2.4 16 valva SOHC the timing belt broke but the balance shaft belt looks almost new so I will not replace it.I would like to know how can I retime the valves back to the crank without a belt installed.I have done a lot of research and could only find a timing belt replacement thus meaning the belt is still on and the engine is in time

    I know this is a interference engine and how can i check the valves before I replace the belt

    if you remove the cams valves will sit closed. then using a leak down tester check each cylinder for air bypassing passed valves. leak down tester allows you to put a 100psi of air into a cylinder . if cylinder holds 90% of the air you are good. if it hold little or no air. check exhaust for air movement or check throttle body for air movement. if you have bent exhaust valves air will come out exhaust. if air comes out intake you have bent intake valves. hope this helps.

  • @vulkn96 routine BS belt replace same time as timing belt a must . and never over tighten the balance shaft belt it should never be very tight ..i always leave mine just slightly snug. if it is very tight it will wear out very fast.

  • @vulkn96 On the 4g63 engine the most affordable way to repair a siezed rear BS and oil pressure good would be to just leave that BS in and remove the belt and delete the oil pump driven balance shaft to a stubby or AMS kit delete kit.. If the(front on evo)rear on DSM oil pump driven BS is seized or spun bearing you would need to replace the bearings or at worst oil pump assembly. The best and cheapest thing to do is just delete the BS.if it is a near stock DD must routine belt change

  • @SR20DET91 what would be the repair for the shaft frezing up and damaging the belt ,how would you go about the repair.

  • That could also be a good sign the rear balance shaft bearing is seizing up.
