http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3Zsvml57PE is a video describing how to learn more about the Mormon Church.

President Gordon B. Hinckley tells of David P. Kimball, George W. Grant, and C. Allen Huntington who carried more than 500 Mormon pioneers across the Sweetwater River in the dead of winter. One of the most courageous and inspiring stories in LDS Church history.

  • Did they know they were brainwashed?

Big deal, all the countries, states, cities started like that..with pioneers

  • Amazing how you can miss the powerful sacrifice discussed in this video, regardless of whether or not you agree with the theology.

  • Courage? Or foolhardiness? How stupid to cross the frontier in Winter? Many, many people made this trek, but not with so very many casualties.

  • The handcart company left Iowa City, Iowa on 28 July 1856 and started across the plains to the Salt Lake Valley. Because of a series of unfortunate events, by October, cold weather and snow caught them in the mountains in central Wyoming.

  • And yes, a true act of courage by those young men saved dozens or hundreds of lives.

  • Yes it was a big deal and if they were your ancestors I am sure you would have a little more respect. You can't brainwash anybody to do what these faithful saints did. Most of us wouldn't have the guts or the faith

  • @byzintek Wow, how are things a year later?

  • I recently was trapped in my car in a 500-year flood of the Snoqualmie River. Pitch black. Sleet. In ice water to mid-chest. Current threatening to roll my car. Battery dead. Unable to kick out the windshield. I wedged myself through the crack of the door I was finally able to open against the water pressure with do-or-die adrenaline. Since, I have been unable to get warm; sleep marred by nightmares; failure of autonomic functions due to hypothermia. Those teenagers did, indeed give their lives.

  • I cry everytime I see this :')

  • That video was absolutely moving. The sacrifice and the courage especially of those 3 young men..just leaves me speechless.

  • Matt 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven

  • Everytime I've watched this, I feel a sense of gratitude that can't be expressed. I will forever be in debt to these great men and woman who paved the way that I might have the truth and legacy of faith.

  • Your name says "theTruthNotLies", perhaps you should change it to say "IHateTruth&EmbraceLies", but nomatter what you say you believe, I know you know its true; we love you friend.
