Bill Hicks: Slight Return

Written by Chas Early & Richard Hurst
Directed by Richard Hurst
Performed by Chas Early

The true story of one man's attempt to change the world through stand-up comedy.

In this stunning solo show, the greatest comedian ever returns from the dead for one more show, revealing how to end the war on terror, why drugs are better than alcohol, and what the Bush family has done for porn.

The production has now played three sell-out seasons at the Edinburgh festival, and two sell-out West End seasons. It continues to tour the UK and to play selected international dates.

"AN ABSOLUTELY MUST-SEE SHOW. Slight Return is a triumph of mimicry, research and writing." The Independent

"ACHIEVES THE IMPOSSIBLE: a brave idea that shouldn't work. But it does." Time Out

"UNIMAGINABLY BRILLIANT- a comedy blinder. Beautiful, heavy-hitting, bad boy stuff... and it is almost painfully good. It is almost painfully Hicks." The Scotsman

"TERRIFIC. Chas Early gives this rollicking reincarnation integrity and wit." Metro

  • Pure comedic necrophelia.

  • I liked how they tried and all and the concept is something that would be awesome to do. But I expected them to deconstruct Bill Hicks' persona and style as well... he was never really hateful, he yelled at premises and the things people did; not the people. Bill Hicks actually thinks cigarette smoking "does nothing for you whatsoever"; this is why he tried to quit a lot. In this instance, he would be against the ban because pot smoking is still illegal, not just because smoking is illegal.

  • this totally fails at capturing the essence of bill

  • ugh

  • Awe man that was brutal. I don't want to be an asshole but the timing was atrocious. I appreciate what they're trying to do but fuck it this sucks.

  • This is not a tribute to Bill Hicks. This is an attempt to dig up what's left of his earthly remains and sell them to a gang of necropheliac fucktards. Since it's not a good performance AS Hicks, then it's just a half-assed reiteration of his bits, no better or worth your ticket-dollar than the jackholes who watched One Night Stand and then came in to work the next day to re-tell the same bits to you at the employee lounge fridge. For God's sake, stop this shit. This is awful.

  • No good...Hicks would of ripped this tosspot a new asshole.

  • i wanted to see this play but the guy doesn't even really sound anything like hicks. Hopefully they never make a movie about him, because there's only one true Bill Hicks and he's gone now when we need him most.

  • yes thats how i felt too. and i must say Chas' impersonation is good. one girl even walked out of the audience in disgust with all the filth and evil spewing out of Chas' mouth (bill's material) it really gave me a kick and added to the whole thing.

  • i watched Doug Stanhope and i got bored. He does not compare to Bill Hicks/is not even close. its hard to watch anyone do stand up these days. i guess i have been spoilt. bill Hicks has ruined me.
