You are hostile? What about the millions murdered by religion? That's real hostility. I for one will not rest until no one is murdered, oppressed, robbed , raped , lied to, mentally abused and tortured by religion . To the religious if you want us to stop pointing out your shortcomings just stop doing the aforementioned
@enigmaticemptiness Of course it's not always possible - identification (of basically everything and everyone) is a very basic psychological mechanism that all humans share. When we get emotional, we just confuse things. The job is to separate what's seperated, again and again, so as not to fall for one's own confusion.
@afar1 Thanks - very good paper. Just two problems: 1 It doesn't support your assertion that more atheists commit suicide (it's a report on attitudes among a sample of 371 seriously depressed people at risk of suicide - none of them actually committed suicide; 66 had "no religious affiliation", the rest were Catholic, Protestant and Jewish who seemed, on statistical balance, to view suicide less favorably). 2 It ignores cases like Jonestown (909 dead), Waco (75), suicide bombers (who's counting)
@afar1 In order to "give evidence" you have to cite date and name of publication, authors and/or titles. If your statement about atheist suicide rates is based on Bertolote & Fleischmann (Suicidologi, 2002), the figure given there for "atheism" is really for China and other "atheist countries" - it's based on victims' nationality, not their religion. Agreed, gov'ts are bad in China and Russia (outlawing religious freedom is also bad), and bad gov't may increase suicide. Atheism is not the cause.
