  • THIS IS NOT A LOVE STORY. The movie is in NO WAY a love story. Its about being lost, whether it be in location, in interpretation, or in life, and finding a person who is right there with you. Finding someone just as lost and trying to find it together. Its about friendship, the kind that stays with you wherever you go, no matter how long you know the person.

One of my absolute favorite films.

  • wow this is such shitty music in comparison to the film which has an amazing soundtrack.

  • To any Westerner who has ever stayed in a random Asian hotel due to business commitments......trust me....it aint that glamorous.......

  • Oh, Johansson.. Once i had crush on you by watching this film... 2003 bitches!!!

  • @medjohi

what in the movie even points to the japanese culture as inferior? come on, that's so far fetched, and i highly doubt sofia coppola even tried to do such a thing. i think you're missing the point. the movie is based around being "lost in translation," being stuck in a place that's completely different (not necessarily inferior). and *weird*=very strange=unusual or different--weird just means you haven't seen it b4. the connotation that *weird* is bad has nothing to do with the meaning

  • Critic Andrew Sarris sums it up well: "The result is a rarity, a grown-up romance -where- sexual facility -has been replaced- with emotional longing".

  • I agree with Mr. Andersoncouncil. This is a love story. It is so unconventional that trying to put what they felt and lived into words gets "lost in translation" (the title can be construed as many things, the romantic relationship between the characters, the feeling of being lost and alienated in their own lives and in the Japanese modern culture that surrounds them).

  • @eatmycakefatkid It is what you describe, but it also is a love story. A very unconventional love story. Ask Sofia Coppola.

  • @medjohi umadbro? go eat some rice and play ddr.

  • @medjohi We're racist if we enjoyed the film? Say what you want about how Sofia Coppola portrays the Japanese culture. Truth is, she portrayed friendship and loneliness in this film better than any other filmmaker I've ever seen.
