In this video my two PhD students, Alex Shyrokov (driving) and Zeljko Medenica (behind the camera) demonstrate the dangers of typing on a laptop while driving. Alex is driving a car in the Project54 driving simulator. He then takes his eyes off the road and one hand off the wheel to quickly type something on a laptop. As he does this, the car in front of him brakes. When Alex looks back it's too late to stop without hitting the car in front of him. In this simulation collisions are not enabled, so Alex's car just goes through the other car, Matrix-style.

he'd also be fine if he wasn't following so close. If the lead car had gotten in a crash and stopped suddenly, this driver would have read ended the sim driver
