Proof of concept video for using advanced game technology for film production.
This video is a demonstration of the potential of real-time rendering for film previz, mattepaintings, set extensions and architectural visualization using CRYENGINE2, the engine that powers the game CRYSIS.
Art and assets were built for the shortfilm MOTHERLAND, they were modeled in Autodesk Maya and exported into CRYENGINE2 for lighting, shading and real-time rendering. Everything in the video is real-time, no additional compositing was done with the image.
Capturing was done using Intel QuadCore 3.2Ghz and Nvidia GTX260 @1920x1080@25fps

Video was featured at Siggraph '08 Intel Tech Talk about convergence of game and film technologies.

  • Yeah! Feel the power of CryEngine 2! :)

  • @majstor037

How do you know? They already showcased a jungle enviroment (all be it a tech vid). I think were going to have a flash back to the jungle level, just for old times sake ;)

  • @danielsayles

The Cryengine 3 is far better optimised and able to do jungle enviroments far better than crysis. They have already said that when overlaying some of the city maps with the original crysis maps they are the same if not bigger. I know your comment is 6 mths old and alot can change in that time, just don't make snap judgments without knowing all the facts. It will get you further in life.....

  • It sucks. I keep coming back to this inspiring video and I can't play Crysis. GTA4 blew my old Nvidia GTX8800, now I'm stuck with onboard graphics. :(

  • did u make the solids with the cry sandbox or u made import with 3dmax?

  • looks like my computer is going to blow whit this QUALITY

  • the problem is this crysis was made for only high end systems ie i only get 30 - 40 fps in ultra high at 1920 x 1080 no AA all the work a gpu / cpu has to do for a jungle environment is 10x harder than a city environment. the reason they did this is so low spec hardwear and consoles can run it.

thanks crytek for fucking up crysis 2 befor its even out.

    what a shame

  • @Thet3 I'm looking forward to see that!

  • @majstor037 you will see jungle with mods!!

  • It's shame that Crysis2 won't have jungle environment :(

Sunny beach and blue ocean, or beautiful night with moonlight coming through palms, falling palm trees in the middle of the fight, hiding in bushes, cloaking by the river, walking on unstable rope bridge over the waterfall... new CryEngine just for f*ckin concrete jungle?! >:(
