The reason why the gold standard is an evil idea only meant to benefit the capitalists. The only thing a commodity standard does is limit the money supply allowing the capitalists to terminally accumulate the wealth, control the money supply, thereby control the economy. It can work if there is a government powerful enough to REDISTRIBUTE the wealth and prevent terminal accumulation. That's what FDR's New Deal society was and why the industrialists/capitalists led a coup against him.
