I was the same when I first got my permit all those years ago. I was 21, just bought a 1911 and wanted the freedom to carry concealed. Then the gun got heavy and I didnt think I always needed it. Plus I was in school so I couldnt carry on campus. Before I knew it I only carried on special occasions or trips to the range. Now I have smaller, lighter guns so there is no excuse. I try to carry every time I leave my house, even to do yard work. I manage to keep it at about 95%. just cuz I can.

With the rise of gang issues in my area, the only place I do not carry now is in the sanctuary at church :)

I don't think carrying all the time is necessary. I wouldn't take it to the grocery store for instance or out on a walk in the neighborhood. Most every household in my neighborhood has some kind of firearm. Most of the time when out on walk people carry knives or a be good stick. It is a quiet neighborhood though and times are a changing so I might need to review. It's kind of like a drivers license, just cause you have one doesn't mean you have to be in the car all the time.
